PODCASTS YOU NEED IN YOUR LIFE
Hey guys! Welcome!
So today’s post is all about one of my obsessions… PODCASTS. You know, that application that’s been on your iPhone for a million years but has only recently become cool? (LOL).
But really, I am super into podcasts these days. I got into them last year after listening to my boyfriend talk for months about things “he heard on a podcast.” I was like “a podcast?” Snooze-fest. Except now, I’m entirely on board.
I began listening to podcasts because one of my favorite bloggers (not because of my boyfriend and he’s very salty about that); The Skinny Confidential, started a podcast with her husband. It took me a while to actually listen, but once I did, I became OBSESSED. I listened to every episode within a few days. I was hooked. At that time in my life, I felt like I was craving some type of new knowledge. About what? I wasn’t sure. I soon found out that there were tons and tons of free resources for entrepreneurs, bloggers, and just people who are overall looking to better their lives. If you’re looking for something entertaining, that’s cool too!
I genuinely feel like I have learned SO much from listening to Podcasts this past year and I can’t recommend them enough for you guys. If you’re looking to stay up on current events, pop culture, or how to master your craft; there’s something for everyone.
I’m sharing my TOP 5 Podcasts (In order) as well as some honorable mentions.
Screenshot them, subscribe, listen, and thank me later!
5. GROUP CHAT
This one is was a recommendation given to me by my boyfriend. So he’ll be happy it made it to the list (lol). It’s listed as #5 because I only recently started listening. But, I’m really really enjoying it so far! This podcast has become something that keeps me up to date on all sorts of random current events. Group Chat is described as “A show where friends with very strong opinions sit down and discuss all things culture, current events and whatever the hell else is on our minds. In a world a world of fake news, poor judgment, and overall bad decision making we’re here to give you the facts.. or at least as we see them.” Which I think is a perfect way to describe this podcast. They definitely keep me in the know, plus I’m always entertained by their witty banter. Aside from being podcasters, Drama and Dee are successful business owners and entrepreneurs. So like- you can trust their opinions, ya know?
If you guys are looking for a podcast, that’ll keep you entertained, and up to date on current events, Group Chat is for you!
WHERE TO START
Because this podcast focuses heavily on current events and culture, I recommend that you guys get started with the most recent episode. Just jump right in! They upload episodes multiple times a week so you will quickly catch on.
4. THE GOOD LIFE
This show just makes my heart burst. The Good Life is a newer podcast with an adorable husband and wife duo, Sazan and Stevie Hendrix. Sazan is a super successful fashion blogger that you’re most likely already following on Instagram. Stevie handles all the behind the scenes of Sazan’s blog and Youtube channel. They also recently became parents to a sweet baby girl that they’re always talking about. Aside from being total relationships goals, they’re also extremely relatable. The Good Life is described as “A Podcast aimed to warm hearts, inspire minds, and captivate listeners through intimate stories and powerful conversations with people who are making an impact. From major celebrities to everyday people – these are the stories that will make you laugh, cry, and take part in a community that will motivate you to live a Good Life.” I LOVE that. You can’t help but feel the positivity and warmth that radiates throughout this podcast. You guys will love it!
WHERE TO START
At the beginning! The Good Life has only been out for a few months now so there’s not a ton of episodes. Just scroll to the bottom and start listening! Their episodes are still relevant and listening to them in order will help you guys get to know them a bit better.
3. HOW I BUILT THIS
THE motivational podcast of all motivational podcasts! This show is incredible. Each episode, the host; Guy Raz interviews different business moguls behind some of the most well-known and successful companies. From the creators of Instagram (literally, Instagram) to Steve Madden himself. You guys will not believe the guests that are interviewed on this show. As you probably could have guessed from the title, they break down their stories behind the journey of how they built their businesses. This podcast is filled with TONS of amazing advice and will leave you feeling motivated to go after your biggest goals. Don’t you love a good ‘rags to riches’ story?
So to all my business owners, entrepreneurs, or aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs- this one’s for you.
WHERE TO START
Start by simply scrolling through the episode page. Chances are you will see multiple names you recognize. This isn’t a podcast you need to keep up with week-to-week, start by listening to people you’re interested in hearing from and go from there. My favorite episodes are “Airbnb: Joe Gebbia” and “Kendra Scott: Kendra Scott.”
2. THE GOAL DIGGER PODCAST
This podcast you guys… THIS PODCAST! This is filled with SO.MUCH.GOOD.INFORMATION! If you are in the creative space (blogger, photographer, etc.) you will love this show. This podcast is hosted by influencer, photographer, and marketing guru- Jenna Kutcher. Jenna is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to owning a digitally based business in 2018. I have never left an episode without learning something, I honestly feel like I should be paying for all the lessons she has taught me. LOL. The Goal Digger Podcast touches on all different types of topics that I believe everyone can relate to, no matter your occupation. But, if you are a blogger or business owner I couldn’t recommend this podcast more. Goal Digger is a business/marketing based podcast BUT, that is not all she talks about. She often interviews women from all different walks of life and opens up about personal topics such as; depression and her battle with miscarriages. I think there is something for everyone is this one.
WHERE TO START
She has all her episodes titled perfectly so you will know exactly what to expect! I would just scroll through and check out some episodes with topics that your’re interested in. I personally love listening to her episodes with Instagram tips and tricks.
Enjoy and take notes!
1. THE SKINNY CONFIDENTIAL HIM & HER PODCAST
The podcast that started it all for me! This show is such a gem. The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast is another hilarious husband and wife duo. Lauryn is a successful lifestyle blogger and her husband Micheal is a business owner and serial entrepreneur. The main focus of this show is primarily business/marketing, but really, no topic is off limits. They interview all types of people- influencers; business owners; celebrities; doctors; nutritionists; to name a few. This is another one of those podcasts that I have learned SO much from. This show has not only motivated me to go after my business goals, but it has given me the tools to do it. This is listed as #1 for a reason, Micheal and Lauryn are doing everything right. Lauryn is that girl that you trust ANYTHING she puts her stamp of approval on. And Micheal is her husband… so he must be doing something right. Haha. Did I mention they’re hilarious? Their banter and sarcasm towards each other will make you feel like you know them. The Skinny Confidential inspires me to be more productive, driven, and successful. It doesn’t hurt that they’re also super entertaining! You guys will love it.
WHERE TO START
If you’re anything like me you will listen to every single episode in order within the span of a few days. No? Okay. I would scroll down a bit and start listening in order. The draw of this podcast is the relationship between Lauryn and Micheal. Listening to a few episodes will help you get to know them better. If you want to feel productive and inspired, one of my fav recent episodes is “Lauryn’s Morning Routine.” Oh and also, follow them both on Instagram NOW! You’ll love them.
Enjoy!
HONORABLE MENTIONS
So those are my top 5. But that doesn’t mean that is where my podcast subscription list ends. If you’re hungry for more, here are a few extras that I love.
LADYGANG PODCAST
This is a great one if you’re looking for something more on the entertaining side rather than informative. The Lady Gang will make you feel like you just gained 3 new girlfriends and you’ll be laughing out loud as you listen.
THE GOOP PODCAST
The Goop Podcast is from the brand Goop, owned by Gweneth Paltrow. She is occasionally on the show, but it is hosted by Goop’s Chief Content Officer Elise Loehnen. They tackle all types of different topics on this podcasts such as health/wellness, culture, business, and spirituality. One of my fav episodes is with an interview between Gweneth and Sarah Jessica Parker. Yes, SJP herself, my hero.
THE INFLUENCER PODCAST
Exactly what it sounds like! A great podcast that is perfect for all my fellow bloggers out there! The Influencer podcast is filled with tips, tricks, and lessons for influencers and aspiring influencers. Julie talks a lot about the business behind blogging. This is amazing whether you’ve been in this space for a while or if you’re just starting out.
TV SHOW PODCASTS
Okay before you call me a nerd, HEAR ME OUT. Another way I love listening to podcasts is listening to ones about some of my fav shows. Mainly for the more complex shows, or even if you’re just a super fan. You know those times you finish an episode of Westworld and you don’t know what the heck just happened? That’s when you turn toward this podcast.
One thing many of you probably already know about me is that I’m a major Game of Thrones fan. So naturally, I listen to a podcast about it. I’m sure you could gather that show-based podcasts only air during the on-seasons of the shows. New podcast episodes typically release after each new episode of the show you’re watching.
The Game of Thrones Podcast and the Watching Westworld Podcast are two different shows, but the same two guys host them. What can I say, I love it. Don’t judge me k? (lol)
